Great podcast. Your discussion of the importance of CIO in hospital strategic planning is EXACTLY right... I have been involved in CPOE implementations and RHIO efforts and the lack of understanding and inclusion of HIT in the hospital strategic planning was a MAJOR problem!

Some suggestions of topics:
1. PHYSICIAN involvement in HIT. We (yes I am a doc) are critical in HIT but CIOs need the right kind of physician to partner with. CMIOs are becoming more common but vary in their training and background. There is a national organization for them now (AMDIS) and some of us who have had the roll are helping write a guide on this topic. I think a show on the importance of physician participation and leadership and who is the right type of physicain for this roll (NOT a geek with a stethescope!) would be great!!!!
2. State roll in HIT - I am biased here because I have just switched from being a CMIO to a position in the NYS DOH to work on this but the state roll is getting bigger and bigger as it becomes clear the feds won't or can't do a lot and some real policy decisions etc need to get done.
3. Medication management - huge topic from e-prescribing to CPOE but really where most of the improvements in patient safety currently have been proven... you can do it right but you can certainly do it wrong!! Tips on how to do it RIGHT plus the challenges that remain (again I am biased because this is a special area of interest for me as I have edited a book for HIMSS on e-prescribing and led a CPOE implementation as CMIO.

If you are still reading....thanks again for your podcast. I am very impressed with your insite...I am passing on the link to lots of folks.... nice job!!!!!!!!!

As a Healthcare CTO and a podcast junky... I am thrilled that I now have one in my subscription list that is specifically covering this niche.

I like the ideas tossed out in other posts, and I DO like the idea of covering some of the paper media (as you described in 101). Although I have noble intentions, I am often very far behind in catching up on my journals.

I commute 6-7 hours per week. When not on the phone, I am listening to podcasts.

In terms of audio quality, I think you are doing fine. There are many pcasters beyond 100 episodes with inferior technical quality, but that folks listen to... if the content is rich.

It will probably take some time to build up to the point to make it feasible, but some of my favorite podcasts use the round-table format -- and this might be fun to hear from time to time.

This is a big commitment on your part -- and you should be commended!

Thank You!

oh... issues of interest?
Servers, Data Centers, WAN, VPN, Citrix, Microsoft, VoIP, Smartphones, DBA, EMR, Reporting Tools (Dashboards), RHIE, PACS, NAS/SAN, VMware, RFID/Inventory Management, .... too many more to list.

What I would like to hear about is how I can become CIO. I am a young IT professional (26 years old), and I want to be the CIO for my company. My current CIO is 48 years old. Right now, I am temporarily managing our help desk since our old help desk manager is out on leave. I think I am doing pretty good, but I have a hard time getting the respect from others in my organization because of my age. So, I guess my questions are:
1. What can I do to get the respect that I want from the others in IT?
2. What should I do to prepare to be the CIO?

Thank you, I really enjoyed the podcast.

The audio was excellent. Was that all in one take? If not, that was still awesome piecing it together...seamlessly. My only suggestion is to talk about your current working projects in general terms. I know you must be working on one or two. =) You could possibly talk about technologies you involved to make "things" work and the problem you faced that called for using [enter 'tool' name here].

Your podcast is excellent, good quality, and I can actually hear what you are saying. I would like to hear more about the FCC Pilot Program as well.

Great podcast. What I would really like to hear about is some information about the FCC Pilot Program. I know my hospital has been accepted, but we don't really know what it means to us yet. If you could get a guest speaker that knows about how the FCC Pilot Program is going to affect us, I would like to hear that.
